A red resin balloon is anchored to the repurposed base of a wooden coat rack via a metal rod. A coat rack is a utilitarian object designed for shedding layers; a designated place to leave behind what is no longer needed, like a heavy jacket in a warm room. In this piece, the item left at the entrance is not an article of clothing, but a balloon representing play, innocence, and one's core identity. The sculpture functions as a visual device illustrating a social transaction: the act of leaving who we truly are at the door in exchange for the person we think we need to be.
