Salmacis, the nymph of springs, bathing, admiring and picking flowers. She spends her time, unlike other nymphs, tending her hair and bathing using her spring water as a mirror. After a life of leasure she encountered Hermaphroditus and fell madly in love with him, after being rejected she begged the gods to remedy his repudiation, the gods answered by fusing them together. Now the waters of that one spring where they became one have the same effect on anyone that steps in it.
